SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) Does PRECO buy back excess power generated by Solar/ Photovoltaic Systems?

Yes, PRECO currently buys back excess energy (kwh) generated by FSEC (Florida Solar Energy Center) approved systems at 6.39 cents per kwh that have gone through our application for interconnection process.

2) Does PRECO offer Net Metering?

No, we currently do not provide net metering but are looking into providing this in the near future. Please monitor the website for the latest news regarding the implementation of this rate.

3) Does the Interconnection Agreement require me to maintain any level of insurance?

Yes, for systems up to 10 kw PRECO requires that the member maintain $100,000 of Liability insurance. For systems above 10 kw PRECO may require a higher level of such insurance.

4) What will PRECO have to do at my residence?

Once your system is installed, PRECO will go to your location to perform a visual inspection and install a special PV/Solar meter in the place of our existing utility meter. This will help us track the production of your system as it relates to our grid and credit you effectively for how much excess energy your system produces every month. Your current meter may not have this capability.

5) How does the interconnection process work?

Interconnection with PRECO's electric distribution grid is a simple 1,2,3 process:

(1) Determine which system to install and complete the necessary forms listed in the “Interconnection Checklist”, accessible on PRECO’s Solar PV homepage (click here).

(2) Submit all required documents along with any applicable fees, then PRECO will process your application for interconnection.

(3) Upon approval of your application and installation of your system, PRECO will go to your location to perform an onsite inspection and install your new Solar PV meter.

Occasionally, PRECO may be required to perform routine inspections to ensure your system is performing well and record any changes that may have been made.

6) Are there any incentives out there to help assist with the initial investment?

Yes, currently there are incentives for those systems that apply at both the federal and state levels. Please see the links below.
